Plan Greater Bendigo 2050 Presentation – Information, Technology, Electronics and Engineering
On 13th September I presented on the concepts of Information, Telecommunications, Electronics and Engineering (ITEE) at Contribution to Plan Greater Bendigo Council Initiative by Engineers Australia.
From the City Of Greater Bendigo Plan Greater Bendigo Draft Discussion Paper, “Over the last 50 years, the City of Greater Bendigo’s population has been steadily increasing. There’s no sign it will slow down and, if anything, evidence suggests it might be accelerating. Over recent years the City has been growing by about 1,500 people each year. The most recent growth figures for the period of over 2015-16 show this to be closer to 1,900 people.” It is predicted that by 2050 the population would have doubled with close to 200,000 residents living in Greater Bendigo and 300,000 living in the wider.
The plan is looking for a few big infrastructure projects that will assist and be ready by cope with these new population changes, more detail can be found at https://www.bendigo.vic.gov.au/Services/Strategic-Planning/Strategic-Planning-Projects/Plan-Greater-Bendigo.
My part of the presentation was on examples where it is possible to use information, technology, electronics and engineering to improve efficiency of current infrastructure rather than building more. Some of the examples were related to:
- Intelligent transport systems
- Smart cities
- Smart homes
- Smart grid
